Ear wax removal is available at our Hearing Care Centre in Parkstone between Poole and Bournemouth, it is charged per appointment:
If we are unable to remove the wax at your appointment, a further appointment may be necessary which will be provided free of charge.
Please inform our staff prior to treatment if you have had any of the following conditions: -
Previous injury from ear wax removal, perforation of your ear drum, grommets inserted, previous ear surgery, mucus discharge from the ear, ear infection, cleft palate, foreign body in ear canal, deafness in either ear, mental instability, vertigo or tinnitus (ringing or buzzing in your ears).
Our hearing care practitioner will examine your ears and check the consistency of the wax to be removed. The most appropriate method for removal will be selected, this may be micro-suction, manual extraction, irrigation or a combination of these methods.
Micro-Suction uses a medical suction device under direct vision through a microscope, it is the gentlest method of ear wax removal and is suitable for nearly everyone, including those who have had a perforated ear drum.
Manual extraction involves using instruments to dislodge the wax and remove it from your ear.
Irrigation involves using a pulsed jet of water to dislodge the wax and then fill the space between the wax and your eardrum to push the wax out of the ear.
Once your ears are clear a video otoscope will be used to show you your clear ear canals and store an image of your ear canals for future reference.
After the appointment it is possible that you may experience some discomfort or mild earache for 1 to 2 days. You may also experience some dizziness; this again should pass in 1 or 2 days. Your hearing care practitioner will tell you if you need to look out for any other symptoms.
Avoid loud environments and cold windy conditions for at least 24 hours after treatment.
We recommend that you use Earol to help reduce the need for regular wax removal. Use it in both ears, one squirt in each ear twice a week is usually sufficient for most people. Earol is available from our online store.
